March 29 is Vietnam War Veterans Day—a day to honor and remember those who served during a war that shaped a generation. For our family, this day carries an especially profound significance because of my husband's journey. Drafted in 1968, he was sent to Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army during some of the deadliest periods of the conflict. His courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers remain a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
The Vietnam War was unlike any other. Amid the challenges of combat, many veterans faced unimaginable losses and hardships. My husband returned home after his service, but the war had left its mark. He has struggled with PTSD ever since—a battle that has continued long after the battlefield was left behind.
It's important to acknowledge the sacrifices made not just by those who served, but also by their families. My husband's journey has shown me the resilience of Vietnam veterans, as well as the need for continued support and understanding for those who carry invisible scars.
On this Vietnam War Veterans Day, we take a moment to reflect on the contributions of those who fought under difficult circumstances and often without the recognition they deserved. For my husband, and for all Vietnam veterans, I want to say: thank you. Your sacrifices are not forgotten, and your courage inspires us every day.
This day reminds us that the stories of these veterans—their bravery, struggles, and resilience—deserve to be shared and remembered. Together, let’s work to create a future where every veteran feels respected, supported, and acknowledged for their service.
